YOUNG ballerinas have pirouetted their way on to a calendar to raise cash for worthy causes.

The Stonyhurst Ballerina Project was the creation of photographer Caroline Holden and dance teacher Anna Southward, who were inspired after seeing images from The Ballerina Project in New York and Lisbon.

Around 40 day students and boarders from Stonyhurst College took part in the project, which saw the college’s famous setting used as inspiration for each month’s photograph.

The topics included references to the Sherlock Homes author Arthur Conan Doyle, who studied at the college and the 40th anniversary of the death of JRR Tolkien, who wrote part of the Lord of the Rings at Stonyhurst.

Caroline, who of Severn Street, Longridge, said Stonyhurst was a beautiful setting for the calendar, which is raising money for the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children and the Stonyhurst Children’s Holiday Trust.

She said: “We shot the calendar in three sessions and it was lovely to use Stonyhurst in a different way.”

Ballet teacher Anna Southward said: “ “Some were day students from all over East Lancashire and others were boarders from places like China, Hong Kong and America.”

The calendars cost £15 and are available by contacting dance@stonyhurst.ac.uk
