A BIRD sanctuary is inviting East Lancashire nature lovers to a unique wildlife spectacle next month.

Martin Mere is to hold events where the public can watch wild swans under the moonlight.

The wild swans by floodlight events will take place every Tuesday night next month, starting on January 8.

The wetland centre, near Southport, currently has record numbers of more than 2,400 whooper swans on the mere, giving the public a great opportunity to see huge numbers of wild swans in their natural habitat.

Visitors will be in a heated observatory, while the wardens give a live commentary, and answer questions.

The family events run from 6.30pm until 8pm.

Booking is essential for this event.
