A SCHEME by The Royal British Legion in East Lancashire to support carers of people with dementia has been declared a success after its first six months.
The Royal British Legion’s Admiral Nurse Service provides specialist support for family carers and to those with dementia within the Armed Forces community.
The specialist service aims to improve the quality of life for people with dementia by supporting those who care for them.
Paula Smith, lead nurse on the project, said: “We have now helped 160 people in Lancashire but we know there are many more who need us.”
To qualify for the support, either the person with dementia or the carer needs to be a Legion beneficiary.
