THE grand opening of a new Ibiza-style nightclub in Burnley has been delayed due to work to replace the old pipes.

AlterEgo was set to open its doors last Friday and stage an official VIP opening night on Saturday.

But work to replace the original pipes in the Grade Two-listed building in Hammerton Street has not been completed.

The new venue, in the former iconic Panama Joes site, is creating 40 new jobs aimed at people in the area.

Bosses said the AlterEgo Lounge would open this weekend and the Alter Ego House the following weekend, just in time for the new year celebrations.

Chuko Odudu, promotions and marketing manager for business consortium POSUK, which is behind the new bar, said: “Original old pipe work that for years had stood the test of time is now being extensively replaced, as opposed to being just repaired, as we do not want to chance this issue causing a disruption for us again.

“Our staff will be working around the clock in order to ensure the opening of the first of our two venues for this weekend.”

Mr Odudu apologised to clubbers who had been looking forward to visiting the new venue: “We understand just how much time and effort would have been put in by our guests into preparing themselves for a most enjoyable and eventful evening at our establishment. We can only apologise for the inconvenience.

“We welcome our guests to both opening events. There will now also be a selection of renowned DJs and other surprises to make these nights even more unforgettable.”
