BLACKBURN College celebrated the achievements of budding young chefs, beauticians and hairdressers in a ‘tasty’ awards ceremony.

The college ran competitions in catering, hair and beauty over four successive Saturdays, which culminated in a buffet lunch where more than 60 Year 10 students, from high schools across the county, were presented with certificates.

Each department then picked overall winners who won trophies.

Iain Steele, Blackburn College tutor, who presented the certificates and trophies, said: “All of the students have shown themselves to be motivated and talented and I wish them all the best in their chosen careers.”

The main award winners included Katie Lesley (Our Lady and St John’s Catholic College), Natasha Kuerschner (Longridge High School), Samuel Brandwood (St Christopher’s CE High School) in the young chef competition, while Bethany Turver (Longridge High School) was crowned young beautician and Khadija Ashraf (Fulwood High School) won young hairdresser.

Principal Ian Clinton said: “The array of talent shown by the students at such a young age is truly inspiring and just shows the motivation and determination they have to stand-out from their peers and succeed.”
