- THE inner workings of East Lancashire’s urgent care centres will be published on Twitter today.
- Real-time messages about patients’ illnesses and injuries will be updated from the nurses’ stations by communications staff at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospitals between 9am and 5pm.
- Twitter users can follow @EastLancsHosp, @BwDCCG and @NHSEastLancs, who will post under the hashtag #tweetwell.
- All cases featured will remain anonymous to ensure patients’ identities are not revealed.
- The updates are part of a week-long campaign involving NHS trusts across the North West to promote local health services in the run-up to Christmas and help people understand which services to use when necessary.
- Dr Charles Thompson, a director at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “I think people will be surprised not only by the number of patients we see every day, but also the reasons why they attend.
- “While we mostly see patients with an urgent medical need, a significant number turn up with a minor complaint that could have been more appropriately treated with advice from their pharmacy or GP.”
