Ram raiders hit two Accrington firms
TWO garages were targeted by thieves who ramraided shutters at the businesses with a car.
After forcing their way inside the businesses, both in Accrington, thieves targeted vehicles left inside which had keys still in the ignition.
In both incidents however thieves were forced to leave empty handed because they had damaged the entrances too much to drive through them with the stolen vehicles.
Antley MOT Centre in Blackburn Road was targeted just before 8pm on Monday before T&G Auto Spray in Victoria Street was broken into between 5pm and 8pm the same evening.
The intruders rammed the shutters at each business, buckling and folding the door until they could gain access.
Police say on both occasions the burglars started a car in each property, having found keys in the ignition. However on realising they would be unable to drive through the damaged doors they left each scene empty handed. Insp Catherine Platt said: "Fortunately they were unsuccessful on this occasions.
“We would urge garage owners to make sure their premises are secure and keys are not left in cars at this type of property.
“Our inquiries are ongoing and we would urge anyone with information to get in touch."
Lancashire Police is looking into the possibility that the two events are linked and urging anyone with information to step forward. Anybody who noticed any suspicious activity in the areas between 5.30pm and 7.45pm is asked to come forward.
