MUSICAL shoppers at Blackburn Market are getting a chance to make their own tuneful addition to the seasonal festivities on a grand piano brought in for the pre-Christmas period.

The classical Bechstein Grand is by the main entrance from Church Street between the The Exchange Coffee Company, Artisan Row and the Blackburn with Darwen visitors’ information centre.

Passers-by will be able to knock out a tune of their choice to entertain shoppers and stallholders.

The man behind the scheme Mark Smith, who runs the coffee bar and Artisan Row, hopes local shoppers with talent will add to the festive atmosphere.

Mr Smith said: “Last year we had pianos in the town centre which got a good response so I decided to get a real Bechstein Grand, the type played by Paul McCartney on Hey Jude, to show off the talents of local people and boost the makrt’s pre-Christmas atmosphere.”

Blackburn Market manager Keith Holden said:“We’re delighted with the arrival of the grand piano, just in time for Christmas.”
