Burnley woman stops trains after walking along track
2:54pm Thursday 13th December 2012 in News
A WOMAN climbed onto the track at Burnley Central Station after her train left while she was buying a ticket.
Trains were stopped for around 10 minutes until officers could make sure the 34-year-old was safe.
It is understood the woman was already travelling on the train and got off in Burnley to buy a ticket.
Police believe she was on her way to an exam and was concerned that she had left some personal belongings on board, so got onto the track to catch the train up.
Insp Phil Hutchinson said: “The woman was walking along the track.
“She was going away from Burnley and British Transport Police are talking to her.
“It is absolutely one of the most dangerous things people can do.
“From our point of view, it not only puts yourself in danger, but my staff as well.”
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Burnley Central railway station, Lancashire, on Thursday, 13 December after a report of a woman trespassing.
“The incident was reported to BTP at 12.11pm and was also attended by Lancashire Police.
“Officers are currently speaking to the woman, who is believed to be a 34-year-old from Lancashire.”
