TWO CATS have been killed in attacks by a dog in the same street in Colne.

Residents with cats living in Varley Street have been left living in fear after the incidents, which have both happened in the past month.

The issue has been reported to police, who will now investigate.

David Foat, who lives on the street, said this week’s attack was the second such incident near his home which was believed to involve a lurcher dog.

He told the Colne area committee that the dog’s owner had been identified and should be spoken to concerning offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

“Children often play in the streets with cats and this is the second cat that has been killed in the past few weeks,” said Mr Foat.

“If the same dog is involved and cats are being killed then I hope that the police will intervene and prevent more carnage.

Insp Paul Goodall, Pendle’s new neighbourhood inspector, said he was not aware of the incident raised but would investigate and report back to Mr Foat.

Earlier this week a cat was found lying injured on the street following an attack by a dog. It was taken to a vets but died shortly after.

Another Varley Street resident said their cat had been killed by a dog around four weeks ago.
