RESIDENTS are being urged to be on their guard against rogue traders offering services on the doorstep.
Blackburn with Darwen Council warn that unscrupulous tradesmen often mislead residents as to the extent of work needed, overcharge for a simple repair or even demand money for work that they haven’t actually finished.
In some cases, no paperwork is provided and receipts don’t contain enough information to track the trader down if something goes wrong.
Councillor Yusuf Jan-Virmani, executive member for neighbourhoods, housing and customer services, said: “Always get several quotes from reputable businesses for a job and make sure you know exactly who a trader is before putting them to work.” The council runs a free home maintenance advice service which can help you to assess whether work needs to be done, give you advice on choosing a reputable trader.
