THE ORGANISER of Rawtenstall’s first artisan Christmas market said the event was a big success.

Asif Farakhan Hayat, from Helmshore-based firm Artisan Events, said there was an ‘absolutely amazing atmosphere’ over the three evenings, which saw dozens of traders occupy the new town square.

And he is already looking forward to next year and the monthly markets on the same site starting in February.

He said: “There is nothing else of this magnitude in the Valley. All the stalls featured local, British products.

“It was great to see so many families and people enjoying themselves.”

I did attend this market on the first evening with my partner and our 2 year old daughter,expecting something good.well what a load of rubbish, certainly not dozens of traders, it took all of 10 minutes to view every stall in both marques. I,ve been to church jumble sales with more to offer!
overpriced polystyrene cups of tea(£1.50) and a kiddies roundabout (£2.00) not enough niche stalls only perhaps 3/4 and again nothing exiting. The site could cater for a large market if the stalls were organised properly, the artisan market only occupied about a third of the available land. And how disappointing for people who had travelled from neighbouring towns amidst all the hype, expecting a huge market, well they won't return in a hurry to view a failure of this magnitude.

I am surprised there was no major accidents! The marquees were erected (and pulled down) in pitch darkness.
It's now almost 12 months since the Valley Centre was removed from the site, and (just like when people had to walk through the dark empty shops), still no lights have been installed on this dark site.
Never mind, higher up Bank Street is keeping the National Grid going with the Christmas lights...!
