A CAMPAIGN to cut crime in the run-up to Christmas has been launched by police in Burnley.

The campaign focuses on 12 different crime areas such as pickpockets, burglary, shoplifting, personal safety, vehicle crime, alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour.

Over the next few weeks, officers will be holding a number of events in the town centre and members of the local neighbourhood policing team will be on hand to speak to people about staying safe.

PCSO Isobel Keiller said: “The 12 Days of Christmas campaign aims to remind our communities of measures that they can take to reduce the chance of becoming a victim of crime.

“I urge people to be on their guard against burglary and theft. Don’t let thieves spoil your Christmas — just take some simple steps to help avoid becoming a victim.

“When you go out always make sure that your windows and doors are securely locked. Don’t leave valuables on display in your home or car and when you do your Christmas shopping, keep valuables like purses, wallets and mobile phones out of the reach of thieves.

“It is also important that people follow simple safety tips to help them have an enjoyable night out.

“Make arrangements as to how you will get home, ensure someone knows where you are going and what time you will be back, stay on the main routes and don’t take shortcuts.

“Don't leave bags over the back of your chair and keep wallets and purses close to your body to make it more difficult for the pickpocket.

“We want people to enjoy themselves but not at the expense of others or their own personal safety.

“I urge people to seriously consider how much they are drinking and what impact it may have on those around them.”

Where are the winging police Czars getting the Staff for these initiatives.

They (The Czars) are constantly complaining about shortages and cuts then they announce initiatives like this.

But what about the other areas not focussed on. Blinkered thinking,

Help help I need a Constable, Sorry They are in a Focus Group.

Why is this a special offer, cutting crime over Christmas. What about the rest of the year?
