EAST LANCASHIRE MP Jake Berry has revealed he was told to keep details of his London landlord secret by Westminster officials because of a death threat over radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada.

The Rossendale and Darwen Tory said he would rather the House of Commons authorities had released his details than be caught up in the latest expenses row after more than 50 MPs were allowed keep such details confidential.

The expenses watchdog published a list of landlords paid taxpayer-funded rent by MPs, which showed some rent from other MPs or peers.

Mr Berry said: “I am not renting my property from another MP, a former MP, a peer, a family member or even a Premier League footballer.

“I was advised not to reveal details of my landlord or postcode in London for security reasons after a death threat from supporters of Abu Qatada.

“I don’t think it was serious but was told to be careful.

“If they published my landlord and postcode, it would take two minutes to discover where I lived.”
