Raid number two at Colne Cricket Club

THIEVES attempted to break in to Colne Cricket Club for the second time in two weeks on Sunday night.

An attempt was made to force open a window at the club, in Keighley Road, overnight on Sunday but the intruder could not open it wide enough to get in.

The attempt comes just a matter of weeks after a TV was taken from the wall of the clubhouse by thieves.

Chairman Trevor Lonsdale said the break-ins would have a financial effect on the club.

He said: “Cricket clubs run on fairly limited budgets so we can’t afford to be having things stolen, as well as having to pay for repairs.

“The issue is with our insurance company now but that probably means our insurance premiums will go up which will again affect our financial situation.

“On this occasion somebody has tried to force open the window, but they are not very easy to open from the outside and it seems they have only got it open by about a foot or so and have obviously decided that they weren’t going to be able to get through it and they have left.”

Mr Lonsdale said he believed the club had been targeted because of its location.

He said: “When nothing is on in the evening the club is quiet, there are houses nearby but it still a slightly secluded location and a quiet area, so that is why we have probably been targeted on these occasions.”

Police are now investigating both incidents.
