A 23-YEAR-OLD Great Harwood man tried to bite off his handcuffs after being arrested when trouble broke out at a Hallowe’en party.
Benjamin Mark Todd told Blackburn magistrates he had struck out because he thought the other man was going to hit him.
Todd, of Wordsworth Drive, pleaded guilty to assaulting Alex Mounsey, and damaging a set of handcuffs belonging to Lancashire Constabulary.
He was fined £300, and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the police, £150 to Mr Mounsey, and £115 costs.
Tom Snape, prosecuting, said the two men had been at a Hallowe’en party at Rishton Golf Club and both parties were ‘taking an interest’ in the same girl.
He said Todd left, but then returned and punched Mr Mounsey, knocking him to the floor. He pulled him up by the collar and punched him again.
Todd told the court he had ‘got in first’ because he thought the other man was going to hit him.
“I don’t remember the second punch,” he said.
