Police have named the man who died in a road traffic collision in Wilpshire as Robert Carson, 35, from Blackburn.
The incident happened at around 10.30pm yesterday on Whalley New Road between the Bulls Head public house and the Wilpshire Hotel.
Firefighters had to cut out the male drivers, of a Vauxhall Corsa and a Ford Focus after they collided head on.
Despite, the best efforts of paramedics the driver of the Corsa, died shortly after arriving at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
The driver of the Focus, was also taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital and has since been transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital.
The man, from Rossendale, remains in a critical condition.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Lancashire Police on 101.
