CLARETS defender Ben Mee has called on supporters to show prostate cancer the red card as he backed a Burnley computer firm's donation to a support group.

Members of the East Lancs Prostate Cancer Support Group (ELPCSG) will be able to access state-of-the-art IT equipment, after P3 Computers agreed to give them a helping hand.

The new gear, which includes a top of the range notebook and software, and LED Micro Projector, will be used for presentations by guest speakers at the group’s monthly meetings.

And Clarets' star defender Ben Mee popped in to P3’s headquarters in Healey Wood Road to perform the official handover.

Ben said: “The ELPCSG does some amazing work so it’s great to see a local company like P3 Computers supporting them in this way.

“Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in males in the UK so it’s vital men get checked out by their doctors, particularly if they around 50 years old and there is a family history of the disease.”

Martin helped form the ELPCSG two years ago, shortly after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

The aim of the group is to raise awareness of prostate cancer, and to support people who have been diagnosed with the disease and their families.

He said: “I’d like to thank P3 Computers and Burnley FC for their help and support.

“After we received a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support for IT equipment, I decided to approach P3 because they are a local long established company with an excellent reputation, and I was also aware of their willingness to support the local community."

Paul Cumpstey, managing director of P3, said: “Prostate cancer affects a lot of people in East Lancashire so the need for awareness and support is an extremely important and worthy cause.

“When Martin approached us and told us about the group, I was extremely impressed by the effort he and others had put into the scheme."

The ELPCSG meets on the first Thursday of every month at Burnley General Hospital and is entirely voluntary and non-funded.
