Pendle MP urges voters to choose police commissioner
7:00pm Thursday 8th November 2012 in News
PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson is calling on Lancashire residents to make their vote count in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections on Thursday, November 15.
The PCC will set the budget, set the amount local people pay towards policing in their council tax, and write the local crime plan. Mr Stephenson said: “We are now in the countdown to the election for the first police and crime commissioner for Lancashire.
“We will soon have an important new local figure in the PCC who will lead the local effort to cut crime and make Pendle safer. Few things are more important than the security of our communities and the safety of our families.
“PCCs will reconnect local policing priorities with local people’s concerns. I am backing our excellent Conservative candidate Tim Ashton who will be a strong local voice.”

This is the most exclusive election ever. It would seem to be an election nobody wants. It is just another job for the boys.

I hope we don't have incompetent companies like G4S taking over parts of the running of our police force in Lancashire.

Anti social behaviour, domestic violence, burglary and violent crimes are all priorities now. They all talk about protecting "front line policing" but don't say why or how they are going to do it.
.
Using non police staff has been happening for 10+ years. The jailers in the custody office and courts haven't been police officers for years.
.
None of the candidates have talked about finance and how much we are going to have to pay, nor have they talked about how they will allocate their budget. Labour talk about 12% cuts and the Tories about 20% so whoever is in power will be cutting the police force budget.
.
None of the candidates seem to have anything new to offer, aren't we better with the system as it is? What was so wrong with it that we need this post?

I genuinely think that this is a great policy and believe it will make a real difference to policing in Lancashire.
However I agree with the above comments about the very average candidates we have running.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. They will no doubt have a chaffeur, plus a deputy and other admin staff and of course expenses. The first thing they do is bring in consultants then go on work study trips to the USA to see how the job is done. There will be workshops, consultative meetings bonding courses etc etc etc etc. At the end of the day very little will have changed.

let the police carry on running the business they are good at and let the MPs do the job they are not good at (running the country) Really do we want another Baffoon who cant do his/her job we pay them to do to mess things up for their own agenda??
If you don't vote It will auto go to the winner on the other hand Spoil your paper it cant be counted.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson forgets to mention his Tory-led Government are cutting our local police, making it harder - not easier - to fight crime. Clegg and Cameron said frontline policing would not be hit by their huge 20% cuts to our force, but the truth is that 213 of our frontline officers here in Lancashire are being cut.
the Tories, concerned that people had forgotten about this election (or even who to vote for), thought they'd remind everyone by putting out a news article then sneaking in a 'oh and here's one Tory candidate to vote for'.
.
blatant advertising and a political farce. If a candidate doesn't have £5,000 and 100 nominees then they can't take part in the 'election'.
you don't know who they are, and all you receive thru' your door is an election poll card telling you where the polling station is.
.
So, who are they electing when they have these elections?
Ohh. the same old fat tory landowners who get made MP's when they reach a certain weight - Blackadder ;-)
