Police dog Chunk adds bite to Briercliffe drugs fight

POLICE in Briercliffe called in extra canine support last weekend as part of a continued drive to rid the streets of drugs.

Last Friday night, three-year-old Chunk, a specially trained drugs dog, joined officers on their regular patrols in Briercliffe.

The schedule involved the team visiting a number of pubs and clubs in a bid to deter people from using or dealing drugs.

This latest action came as part of the area’s HARD scheme (Harle Syke against Rowdy Behaviour) which has been running for a number of years in the Briercliffe and surrounding area.

PC Rachel Lonsdale said: “All the licensees we talked to were very supportive of this action and I am pleased to say that no drugs were found.

“Chunk is a fantastic deterrent and I think it’s reassuring for people to see the police out and about with a dog.

“We will not tolerate drugs being used and sold in our pubs and clubs.

“Where we have information that this is happening we will take action.”
