Man kicked to death by horse near Edenfield

A MAN has died after being kicked by his horse.

The 51-year-old man from Middleton, Greater Manchester, who has not yet been named, was travelling northbound on the A56 Edenfield Bypass last night with his wife and daughter.

The man pulled his vehicle and horse box onto the layby after the animal became agitated.

The man entered the horse compartment to calm the horse but he was repeatedly kicked in the head causing fatal injuries.

His wife had tried to help her husband but was also repeatedly kicked, causing her to retreat.

She sustained a fractured femur and chest injuries.

The couple’s daughter was also present but fortunately uninjured, although she was treated at hospital for shock.

Police and ambulance were called to the scene at around 6pm yesterday.

The man was unconscious, trapped in the box with the horse.

An emergency vet was called to the scene and the horse was sedated to enable the man to be tended to by ambulance crews.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The horse was transported a short distance to a nearby equestrian centre.
