Probe after car is set alight in Nelson

A CAR is believed to have been deliberately set alight at an address in Nelson.

Firefighters were called to Robert Street at around 9.30pm on Monday after reports that a black Fiat Punto, which had no tax or insurance, was alight.

Crew manager Tom Ashworth said: “The car had been left on the side of the road for about a week.

“We are treating the fire as suspicious and the police also attended.

“The fire was going really well when we arrived and we had to put a firefighter in breathing apparatus because it was giving off quite a lot of smoke.”

The car’s registered owner has been informed and a fire investigation is to take place.

I don't think that there is a Robert Street in Nelson - perhaps it was Roberts street?
