Adoptive parents needed for 116 children across Lancashire

LOVING parents are being sought for more than 100 children across Lancashire, say promoters of a new campaign.

County social services chiefs are preparing to launch their latest recruitment drive — ‘Could You Love Me?’ from today.

And they have released artwork for two heart-rending adverts which have been drawn up to back the initiative.

Currently there are 116 youngsters waiting to be adopted countywide and county bosses hope the campaign will make a difference.

County councillor Susie Charles, children’s services cabinet member, said: “Á lot of people across the county want to adopt and would make fantastic parents but they're unsure about coming forward.

“With this campaign, we're encouraging them to imagine the happy life they could provide for a child, with support and care throughout his or her childhood and beyond.

“We're not looking to pick someone based on their age, gender, race or sexuality. What we’re interested in are people’s personal qualities and how they could use them to love a child unconditionally and support them as they grow up.”

Adoptive parents must be aged at least 21 and living in Lancashire, or close to the county boundaries.

One Lancashire couple who have adopted four children have urged others to follow suit. They first adopted twin boys and then two ‘older brothers’. The mum, named only as June, said: “We became a team, we appreciated each other, we’re happy we were all finally together.”

The campaign is starting ahead of National Adoption Week from November 5 to 11.
