The scene of the accident
A CAR burst into flames as it crashed into an electricity sub station in Haslingden.
The 18-year-old man driving the Nissan Navara lost control, mounted the pavement and hit the power source in St Crispin Way, Haslingden.
He managed to escape with minor injuries before the car set alight.
The roads leading on to Carrs Industrial Estate were closed by police following the incident at around 4pm yesterday (Sunday).
Fire crews from Rawtenstall and Haslingden were called to the scene and used powder to extinguish the flames.
Crew manager Steve Morley from Rawtenstall said: “Some how the vehicle has come off the road and into the electricity sub station.
The sub station is quite substantial and when we left the scene the electricity provider was trying to restore power to the area.
“We couldn’t use water to extinguish the fire because of the electricity, so we used powder.”
Fire crews remained on scene until the evening as a precaution.
Police are investigating the incident.
