Three car crash in Oswaldtwistle

A WOMAN in her 20s had to be rescued from a car after a three vehicle pile-up on Thwaites Road, Oswaldtwistle, this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the road, at the junction of Stanhill Lane, at 12.08pm today after reports of the three car smash.

The woman, who was a rear passenger of the Renault Scenic, was trapped and fire crews lifted her out of the car on a spinal board before she was taken to hospital.

The driver of the Seat Ibiza, believed to be in his early 20s, and the driver and passenger of the MG Rover, both in their 40s, received minor injuries.

Watch manager Steve Barnes from Hyndburn fire station, said they were at the scene for around 80 minutes.

“There had been a driver error at the junction which resulted in the three vehicles colliding.

“We assisted the ambulance crews with the removal of the female casualty by removing her from the vehicle on a spinal board.

“We also assisted paramedics with their assessments while waiting for the ambulances and provided shelter from the adverse weather conditions.”

Four ambulances were called to the scene to transfer the patients to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The damaged cars were recovered from the scene and police carried out their enquiries.
