Two men jailed over high-speed chase in Blackburn

TWO men have been jailed for a total of three years after a high speed police chase in Blackburn.

Preston Crown Court heard Brian Bruce Harby and Paul Moore rammed two marked police cars as they were forced to stop the stolen car they were driving.

An officer had to be taken to hospital after the incident, which started when a member of staff at the Co-op in Preston New Road reported an alleged theft, the prosecution said.

Shortly after police spotted a blue BMW in Lower Audley Street which failed to stop when directed to pull over, the court heard.

Prosecutors said instead the pair, jointly charged with taking a vehicle without consent aggravated by dangerous driving, sped over forcing police to chase them at speed, along in Lower Audley Street, Park Street, Bolton Road, Freckleton Street, Byrom Street, Stonyhurst Road, Wensley Road, Bent Cap Lane, Oozehead Lane, Livingstone Road, Buncer Lane and Wensley Road.

Moore was also charged with theft of alcohol worth £32 from the Co-op, theft of two televisions from Aldi, driving while disqualified and without insurance.

The 41-year-old of Heaton Street, Blackburn, was sentenced to two years and 12 weeks in prison. He was also disqualified from driving for five years and ordered to take an extended retest.

Harby, 37, of Rawstorne Street, Blackburn was locked up for nine months and was also banned from driving for 12 months.

A spokesman from Lancashire police said: “We are pleased Harby and Moore have been brought to justice for putting peoples lives at risk. We know hope they will uses the prison sentences to think over the consequences of their actions.”
