Colne's Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in award votes plea
11:39am Friday 26th October 2012 in News
COLNE’S Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival is appealing for votes in this year’s UK Festival Awards.
The annual event has been nominated in the Best Small Festival category.
Voting finishes on October 31. To visit visit www.festivalawards.com/vote.
Festival organiser, Alison Goode, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated.
“The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival is now in its 23rd year and it is nice to be recognised.
“We hope all those people who enjoy the festival year after year will take the time to vote for us.”
These awards are the annual Oscars of the contemporary music festival business and the only ones that recognise the effort which goes into producing Britain’s music festival scene.
More than half a million fans voted in the competition last year, making the awards a bench-mark for festival-goers to rate their experiences and a coveted prize for organisers.
The top 10 shortlists in each category will be announced on Monday, November 5.

I would love to see any proof, research or source backing up your claims?
As a professional person, I certainly do not class myself as part of the 'Great Unwashed' as you so ignorantly put it; and yet year in, year out I attend with my family and have a fantastic weekend. The music is wonderful, the atmosphere great and the people are generally very friendly. The only down side I can think of in recent years has been the weather, but we can't move the Pennines now can we!
In regards the 'only people who support it', I believe if you asked many of Colne's business owners, you would most likely find that they benefit greatly from the influx of tourists. Not to mention many of the local residents enjoying the atmosphere (free of charge) that the festival creates.
Anyway, I'll be voting.
Long Live the Great Rhythm & Blues Festival.
