Waterfoot man trashed tables at wedding

A COUPLE from Rossendale who brought the wedding forward so they could pose with the Olympic Torch had their big day marred when the groom’s brother damaged property at the reception.

Duane Heys, 40, of Waterfoot, admitted trashing tables, chairs and other items during the celebration at the Alma Inn, in Colne, following an argument.

Building firm manager Darren Heys, from Lumb in Rossendale and his bride-to-be Catherine Lloyd were married in St James The Less RC church in Rawtenstall on Saturday June 23.

The couple had planned for their big day to begin at 12.30pm but moved the ceremony forward after learning it would clash with the Olympic procession.

Shortly after the wedding had ended they were able to pose with the Olympic Torch as it passed along Burnley Road.

Heys pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Burnley Magistrates Court and was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
