A TERMINALLY-ILL grandmother-of-10 is attempting to raise £50,000 to pay for potentially life-saving treatment not available on the NHS.

Angela Newton was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014 and was told by NHS doctors that nothing more could be done to help her.

Not wanting to give up hope, the mum-of-eight and her family found the Hallwang clinic in Dornstetten, Germany and have entered into talks over cutting edge treatment.

They now need to raise £50,000 if the dream is to become a reality.

Mrs Newton, who has been diagnosed with cancer three times since 2000, said she was devastated when she was told the hospital couldn’t do anymore for her.

She said: “But I can’t just lie in bed and moan about it, I’ve got to pick myself up and carry on.

“The cancer is there, it’s never completely off my mind and it won’t be until it’s gone.

“I’m really excited to get to Germany, it is comforting that there is hope for me yet.

“It’s out there now, everyone knows something is wrong with me but I have to keep going for my family.

“It’s been such a stressful time for everyone and the girls can tell its upset me.

“But they are doing such an incredible job at the moment, I’m really proud of them.”

The 52-year-old from Padiham was originally diagnosed in 2011 and had a life-threatening operation to remove the cancer.

Three years later she was told the cancer had returned and faced several intense courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The treatment forced the former hair dresser to give up the salon she had owned for three years.

The therapy caused her to suffer heart failure and other complications, so the doctors at the Royal Blackburn Hospital made the tough decision to end treatment.

The German clinic offers treatment for a range of cancers and provides personalised treatment options.

Mrs Newton’s daughter Roxanne, 26, said the past three years have been very difficult for all the family.

She said: “When the NHS said there was nothing more they could do, we felt lost as a family.

“But after the agonising, terrifying, exhausting battles we have faced together we were not prepared to sit back and give in.

“We found the place in Germany and my mum has started talking with the clinic about a treatment plan.”

Mrs Newton was also diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2000 and went into remission the same year.

Roxanne said the JustGiving page she set up for her mum has made more than £2,000 in a matter of days.

She said: “My mum has been wonderful, she’s never complained or talked about the cancer throughout her treatment.

“But now she has become more vocal about it, which shows us she firmly believes this German clinic is her last chance to be treated.

“She’s the perfect wife, mother and grandmother, she would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat.

“She has been incredibly brave and strong. She is the world to us.”

Several fundraising events are being organised to help raise the vital cash including a children’s Christmas party is taking place at the Lowerhouse Canteen in Lowerhouse Lane, Burnley, on Sunday, December 4.

There will be a raffle, tombola, a DJ and Father Christmas will make an appearance.

A sponsored sky dive is also in the planning.

Roxanne said: “Every penny counts, it really does.

“Our mum means everything to us and she’s done so much for us all over the years, we want to be able to this for her.”
