TWO mountain bikers were rescued after falling in different incidents over the May Bank Holiday by Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team.

The first incident saw the rescue team at Healy Nab near Chorley late on Saturday.

The injured 14-year-old boy was treated and then stretched off by the rescue team to an awaiting ambulance after suffering from shoulder pains as a result of his fall.

The second incident of the weekend saw team members at Gisburn Forest on Monday afternoon.

A young man, who had fallen at the difficult section ‘Bottoms’ while on ‘The 8’ red route. Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, along with the North West Air Ambulance treated the casualty who had sustained severe head injuries before he was stretched to the helicopter for onward transportation to hospital.

Kevin Camplin, team leader of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, said: "A total of 30 mountain rescuers, all of whom are volunteers and the rescue team off-road Landrover Ambulances were used during both incidents. We wish both injured mountain bikers a speedy recovery and wish them the very best for the future."
