Full-time: Birmingham City 4 Blackburn Rovers 1

ROVERS' outside chance of a place in the Intertoto Cup was foiled on the final day of the season.

But Birmingham City's efforts to avoid relegation were in vain as, despite twice taking the lead before Fabrice Muamba sealed the win with the fourth and final goal late on, results elsewhere meant they dropped back down to the Championship after just one season in the top flight.

Birmingham took the lead just after the half-hour, when David Murphy ran onto a quickly taken free kick and, after not being closed down, took the opportunity of a speculative shot at goal.

Brad Friedel looked to have it well covered, but took his eyes off the low strike for a second and the ball spooned up out of his hands and over the line.

Morten Gamst Pedersen got Rovers back on level terms four minutes into the second half with a first-time right foot shot from Roque Santa Cruz's square ball, after Jason Roberts' initial effort had been charged down.

Brett Emerton, Santa Cruz and Roberts all had chances to put Rovers in front, but they capitulated after Birmingham had regained the lead in the 74th minute.

Moments after Cameron Jerome had missed a sitter from close range, the Birmingham substitute slotted home after latching onto Sebastian Larsson's ball from the right.

Jerome made it 3-1 with a minute to go from Gary McSheffrey's ball into the box.

Muamba wrapped it up in stoppage time with a free header.

Bless 'em - they're so predictably bitter!

Our left back gets an England call up - their's tells 'em to swivel and leaves!

LOL at poor little bottom half of the Championship Burnley!

Your so way off the mark Jamie. You just sit tight and see what happens next season. Without sounding bigheaded what on earth would you know how the gaffer see\'s Derbs. I know how the gaffer see\'s him and the plans for next season, and using Matt as bait or part ex is not one of his plans. Your comment is fair enough but far from reality.
In fairness the facts speak for themselves, im not up on my stats but i dont think Derbs has started more than 3 games in the prem last season. I believe the only reason a fit player is not used by a manager other than a sub is because other players are rated more highly by the gaffer. Im sure MH is sympathetic to strikers however he'll know the quality of striker he'l want at the club we have a serious lack of that at the moment and MH knows it. That may sound strange considering our 2 front guys are doing so well but Benni is 2 diminsional slow and, well lazy. As for Matt he's lightweight and lacks creativity. If you compared JR to Derbs and asked which one you'd choose its a no brainer. JR is powerfull, direct, a nuscance and a real go-getter. Matty is a mediocre fox in the box. There may be a place for him on the wing if MGP continues playing like he has been but id be suprised as other than pace he lacks every ttribute you look for in a winger - ie, creativity, passing and crossing abilty, quick feet, tenacity, and the ability to beat a full back. Believe me if i've seen it MH will have. I believe we'll be bringing in 2 new Strikers,a Centre mid, right winger and Right back. Making way will be Bents,Zurab, Benni, Axe, Matty and Emmo. 5 of these 6 will be sold i'd imagine with one poss Brett just simply dropping to the bench to accomodate. But hey if I know nothing then i'll be proved totaly wrong wont I,
Yes Jamie,
You'll be proven totally wrong.
Derbs has been used sparingly due to the fact that he is a great impact player.
Not the best scenario but being young and able to learn and develop from better players, i can only see him improving.
Just look at the run and finish at Newcastle plus his finish against Boro that shows his quallity plus he won 3 penalties for Rovers last season which in 2 games proved to be decisive.
Thats an impact leading to 12 points.
Mny players attributes often get flagged through the pro zone results, again something that has backed Derbs up to be fair.
You must be a decent supporter travelling from Wrexham, thats a good hour, but your way off with your "ins and outs" but hey footballs all about speculation this time of the year.
Thanks for your views Jmaie.

Well whoever puts on that shirt is 100% commited and i can honestly say we are all bitterly disapointed we didnt quallify for the EUFA Cup but we can have a hard pre-season, see who the gaffer adds and push on hard next season. In fact I would go as far to say that what you have to say is a compliment really 'laughing at our missing europe' quip....Which ever club you profess to pledge your loyalty it's fair to say you've done F**k all.....AGAIN But hey no doubt BRFC will be up at the higher reaches of the Prem next season fighting for a place in Europe & I can live with that. Obviously you cant but hey !! Thanks again.
i thought of you because your a sad Rovers nerd. Pathetic sad old fart ha ha ha Bye Europe,Bye Bentley HAIL HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Now go and give your wife some much needed attention youve spent far toolong on here this season saddo. And for what!!!!!!!!!!!! Fulham won as much as you ha ha ha ha
Passport, passport I'm afraid your making no sense what so ever as I cannot find the word 'nerd' in the english dictionary? So it is fair to say that your speaking a language that I dont understand which in turn leads me to believe your the only one understanding what your saying? I truly wish I could get into this with you concerning BRFC's season but if you insist on talking jibberish then I cannot. Your a very weird individual. I'm slightly concerned at your stalking antics
youve spent far toolong on here this season saddo .
for is it not that you also have spent as much time on here considering that you know I have? Looking at your time of post I would say your just off to school, obviously attempting to enhance your education which looking at your language suggest your really struggling with it!! As for your 'Fulham won as much as you' comment I do have to correct you on that. BRFC through it's league position alone should inform you that BRFC have won more than Fulham. Quite possibly £3/4 million. So on that note you have to stand corrected. The only comment that holds any water is BRFC failed in it's attempt for Euro. Much better to attempt a Euro place than not at all.I'm sure most BRFC fans would agree with that. Now,as I said in yesterdays post what the fu*k do I care what you have to say? A response from me is purely courteous. As I say you must speak in broader terms otherwise what is the point?
Well Woody you complete buffoon!
Do your homework.
Fulham have quallified for Europe through fair play league.
Its not 100% yet but as close as **** it!
It makes you lot look worse now!
Dirty Blackburn! naughty dirty Rovers!
So truth is Fulham rewarded with Europe Rovers NOT IN EUROPE AS MANY OF THIER DELUDED FANS PREDICTED!!
HAHA AND YOU CALL GEORDIE FANS DELUDED!!!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Hi Dean, I remeber you. The funny thing is that i was reading my e-mails and i thought i would read this site after i noticed all the posts. I remember saying that if i moved on i would reveal who i was but without giving too much away i wont be going anywhere after signing a new deal last week. We are in this morning for a few hours so il be setting off soon but thanks for your support and that of all the fans. The season didnt finished how most of us would have liked it to but the possotives of it outweigh the negatives. During this year there has been posts of frustration from supporters, some making comments on players commitments to the club. Well whoever puts on that shirt is 100% commited and i can honestly say we are all bitterly disapointed we didnt quallify for the EUFA Cup but we can have a hard pre-season, see who the gaffer adds and push on hard next season. Thanks Dean, and all Rovers fans for your support!
Hi again open you eyes, Now, lets have a think. Steve Warnock, it's not you, there has been no hint of you leaving, am guessing, a certain Mr McCarthy? Could be wrong!!! Give me another clue, like what position you play, i wont stop until i guess, ha ha ha Would be nice to know who you are!!!
Well Dean,
Im definately not Benni Mc,and your correct im not Warnie.
Iv played in a few positions this season and cant grumble with the impact ive made.
I respect the fans so much as i myself am a fan.
Thats your clues, have a good summer Dean and i hope you realise your support is appreciated.
Thanks.

its not as if warnock is going to play hes terrible, ask for bentley he will be lucky to start as his form of late has been shocking, so bob what would you say to me a man u fan after just winning league and playing in europe next year. iam so glad your lot didnt get to europe as your an embarrasment always getting knocked out early your a disgarce its bad when teasm like aberdenn get get furthur than you in europe ha ha ha and getting beat 4-1 of a relegated team speaks for it self sing up for the champions
Firstly, I would say that you need to pay more attention in your English Language lessons.

I would also ask why are you taking umbrage at a dig at our local rivals when Utd have got £70m worth of talent in the squad (but still only two more players than Rovers).

Although probably not quite as ecstatic as you, I have to admit to some relief at not qualifying for the Intertoto. Since we don't have the multi-million pound resources at our disposal to be able to put out 2 Premiership quality sides, I believe Intertoto football is a distraction for a club the size of ours. I think it would be better for us to have a conventional preseason and be able to concentrate on the league and earning a UEFA cup spot outright (like when we reached the knock stages in 2007) and maybe even have a concerted effort at pinching the bottom Champions League spot off Arsenal or Liverpool. We have finished in the top four on three occasions in our recent history, so it's not entirely out of the question.

Whatever happens, we have still finished in the top third of the Premiership, above the vast majority of the bigger spending clubs that inhabit this and the other leagues, and whilst we are annoying the likes of you and any other pretend glory hunting supporters that'll do me just fine.

I presume u are not a proper fan, who goes to games, with the fact u wont even give your name. I think if u were a true fan like woody, robbie, Jamie, Trev etc. you would let us know who u r, and what your opinion is, instead of hiding behind "lets all laugh at...."

I have no problem with people in disagreement, but what's with all the childish personal abuse, towards your own fellow fans?

The stats don't lie. Uefa cup has proved to distract teams over the years, and The fixture congestion could still cost rangers the SPL title.
