    Full-time: Crystal Palace 5 Burnley 0
ALL OVER: Steven Caldwell can't hide his disapointment
ALL OVER: Steven Caldwell can't hide his disapointment

Crystal Palace sent out an ominous statement of intent as they sealed a place in the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs with a thrashing of the 10 men of Burnley.

Neil Warnock's Palace have stormed up the league in the second half of the season and after Ben Watson had buried a penalty and Clarke Carlisle had been sent off for the visitors with just six minutes gone the result never looked in doubt.

Victor Moses then took advantage of more dreadful defending to steer in a second before Tom Soares hit a third before half-time.

Scott Sinclair added a fine individual goal as the visitors tired in the second half before top scorer Clinton Morrison completed the rout. Relegation appeared the only route out of the Championship when Warnock took charge in October.

But with the rest of the top-half of the table stuttering few would now bet against a miraculous return to the Premier League at Wembley for in-form Palace who will face Bristol City in the semi-finals.

The scoring began in the sixth minute when a harmless looking goal-kick was misjudged by Carlisle and Sinclair stole in on his blind side to toe the ball into the area.

The on-loan Chelsea winger set himself to strike but was felled by the hapless Carlisle leaving referee Kevin Friend with no option but to award a penalty and show Carlisle a straight red card.

Watson stepped up to smash home low to Brian Jensen's right and give the Eagles the perfect start.

And as the Clarets were still reorganising at the back Warnock's side hit a second just three minutes later.

Sinclair collected a short corner to set off an a mazy run down the left.

His chipped cross was half-cleared to Jose Fonte who headed back into the area where 17-year-old Moses was all alone and onside to guide a left-footed strike back across Jensen into the far corner.

Soares then grabbed the third for the rampant hosts in the 37th minute when Morrison skipped round Jensen and pulled the ball back for him to slam home from inside the six-yard box.

Palace started the second period in similar mood and after substitute Paul Ifill's hesitation cost him a chance when clean through Morrison went close to a fourth.

Shaun Derry sliced the defence open with a superb pass and Sinclair ran through to tee up Morrison but Michael Duff made a last-ditch challenge to deny him a tap in.

The outstanding Derry was then given a rest by Warnock with one eye on the play-offs as Carl Fletcher came on before Sinclair's eye-catching fourth in the 61st minute.

Sinclair picked the ball up on the left touchline, cut inside Chris McCann and then arrowed through two more tired challenges before drilling a low shot past Jensen and into the corner.

The Eagles were toying with their opposition and Morrison made it five just four minutes later.

Watson again carved open the defence with a run and clever pass and Morrison kept his cool to slot past Jensen from just inside the area and usher in an exhibition of possession for the remaining 25 minutes.

HOW MANY, 5 NIL, oh dear, oh dear, never mind scumleys there is always next season to live in hope about getting to the best league in the world Where the mighty ROVERS are 7th, yes 7th with a game to go. Not bad for the sh!t you lot gave us all year, 26000 there yesterday, including me. You lot in the Prem, my a@se, no chance not for years the way your board runs things. How does it feel to be crap, because that's what you are.

WHAT A LOAD OF UTTER GARBAGE!! IF OWEN COYLE IS "THE NEW BILL SHANKLY" THEN BRENDAN FLOOD IS COMPLETELY CLUELESS (JUST LIKE THE PLAYERS ON SHOW AT PALACE) AND GIVING MONEY FOR COYLE TO SPEND IS JUST MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN.
EXPECT BURNLEY TO FINISH NEXT SEASON MORE LIKE THE OLD BILL SHANKLY "DEAD AND BURIED".
GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO ARE PREPARING TO BUY SEASON TICKETS SO THAT THEY CAN WATCH THIS RUBBISH EVERY OTHER SATURDAY.
Posted by: Yorkshire Claret, Leeds on 7:09pm Sun 4 May 08
TOTALLY RUBBISH. The supporters deserve a whole lot more. Proves how poor the team is, non of the striker department was decimated excuses please. We were just out classed in a massive way, has been the case for most part of the season. Summat seriously needs to happen, the board need to take a long hard luck at the ream and manager, because from my point of view and many of the claret season ticket holders we know, they will be in decline. i strongly suggest massive investment over the summer otherwise the supporters that Flood and Kilby depend on to keep the books balanced will be on a mass exodus fron the Turf. No supporters no club, think about it? i can take the defeats, the poor performances, but to get trounced by a clear 5 and a shocking performance by players on their way out is no excuse. The board need to be honest with the fans and tell them exactly whats what, because if this was a PLC there would be a outstanding vote of no confidence in the people running the club. Changs sooner rather than later please. GET IT SORTED, WI PERFORMANCES LIKE THAT IT WILL ONLY CEMENT THE FACT THAT QUALITY PLAYERS WILL NOT BE WANTING TO COME TO THE CLUB!!!!! **** OFF AGAIN CLARET

Posted by: brook claret, derbyshire on 7:31pm Sun 4 May 08
without a massive investment in the squad,we are looking relegation in the face.this squad is not big enough or strong enough.it lacks class in every department,it lacks passion,it lacks guts.regarding signing cole,if we sign him,his wages alone will put financial strain on any money we have for other players, apart from that he is over the hill and always injured.i hope i'm wrong but i believe this could well be our last season ( for some years )in this division.don't waste money on a new stadium get players worthy of playing in a better stadium.anyone got about £20 million quid they can give us for players?

Coyle's points per game record is now almost worse over 31 games than Cott's was over the first 14.
We have in recent weeks, been told we are still playing for the play-offs, contracts, pride, supporters etc - but the fellow has proved singularly incapable of providing motivation
Don't give me cr*p about it not being his team yet, etc - he has failed to identify weaknesses the moderately knowledgeable spectator can see from a mile off and it IS possible to take over even a rubbish side in mid season and improve them - Warnock, Blackwell, etc
I warned on here about this bloke's questionable credentials when we appointed him and today's capitulation was a gravely worrying display
Posted by: Floody Hell, Still counting Flood's promised millions on 8:47pm Sun 4 May 08
What a joke, no commitment, no pride in playing for the club, no investment. The players today are an absolute disgrace who are not fit to play for this team, Coyle is totally out of his depth in this division and league, and Flood still probably will not sign any players that cost money.

    SACK FLOOD SACK COYLE
    BRING BACK TEASDALE!!

And to all the Flood, Coyle and Kilby fans, still think these are the men taking this club somewhere, yes to where Leicester are going.

For the minority of you Dingles that are just plain thick, maybe next season you wont invade the Rovers boards and post stupid comments about how u are a bigger team. Face it, your not! there's over 20 league places between us and you aint gonna close that gap anytime soon. It is a shame really because I would love a proper derby game twice a year...heres to hoping you achieve it in the next 5 years!

Hi Pete, we don't want your respect and we don't want you on here commenting everytime we get a bad result. Now why don't you go onto your own site and cling onto the hope of europe with the rest of the muppets on there. One result doesn't make or break a team. And you wonder why everyone laughs at little old Blackburn. Can't wait for your bubble to burst and when you fall you won't stop in the championship. Where's the money coming from for your summer signings? Fat Jack's lot won't give you any more will they.

Says the team in the chumpionship with ave gate of 10000. When we were last in chump we had 22000 av. Lets face it ure a small club with small support, small stadium, small ambitions. LIVE WITH IT.
New stadium that holds less then current one - obviously not expecting any decent gates. Massive sounds quite appropriate seeing as we are the seventh best club in England.

Total crap coming from wisewords. Little old Blackburn, small town club, etc... Jealousy absolute jealousy, we finished HIGHER in the best league in the world than big city clubs, just take a look at the table, but then you propably don't know where to find it never mind read it, and I think your bubble will burst before ours.Yes and you can go on about Coventry in the cup, but the season is almost over, now ask yourself and the rest of the brain dead scumleys what league would you rather be in.

Owen Coyle stressed the importance of "finishing the season strongly" but went on to lose 5 games out of the last 8 and saved the worst until last!!! Burnley Football Club owe an apology to Wolves for their shambolic non-performance at Palace. They were a disgrace to the shirt.
Brendan Flood has nailed his colours to the mast of Owen Coyle and will probably feel that sinking feeling next May. Division One here we come!!

    Well, several points..........

    1) Would ALL the Blackburn numpties get off the Burnley boards and stick to your own in-bred message boards - yes, as a Burnley fan, I know you play in a higher league, get more supporters, have a bigger ground - but just leave us to it! Life is hard enough as a Burnley fan without you lot, who haven't really achieved anything this season, rubbing our noses in it!

    2) Many comments on here from the Burnley fans are in order, and I have to agree with many of them. In fact, they are all of the same nature - saying that the club needs younger players, massive cash investment, new manager, etc. I have to agree!

    3) Where is this going to come from? Flood's company, Modus Developments (I think!) has grown by an average of 118% over the last 4 years. However, how is all this talk of him being a great businessman helping Burnley footbal club. I am sure that running a football club is a different kettle of fish than running a property company - hence why the club hasn't improved any since he has been on board!

    4) Does anybody know if any of the board ever read these pages, or in fact, anybody from the club?

    5) Big revolt or protest anybody? Maybe at one of the friendlies over the summer - when the club don't spend any proper money on investment in the club?

I aint going to any games next season, unless the club spend soem decent money, appoint a proper proven manager or make some quality signing! Why should I pay to go and watch that rubbish I have had to put up with this season?

I am sure that running a football club is a different kettle of fish than running a property company - hence why the club hasn't improved any since he has been on board!

THIS MY FRIEND IS YOUR ANSWER....

Flood professes to be a BFC fan, my arse!!

I'm one of your fierce rivals & I can look from the outside & I say your in big trouble with this guy.

Harp on about J.Walker as much as you like but he was a BRFC supporter with blue in his blood & what he did for his CLUB still shines brightly today. That is business acumen for you!!

Kick FLOOD OUT!! Any one who states 'I have to buy my wife a diamond each time I finance a player' is Fu**in scary & a real danger to BFC!!
