MODEL Gillian Woodcock won the Miss Nelson Beauty contest back in 1965 -taking the same trophy her sister Vicky won three years earlier.

Gillian, 18, won the Bob Lord Cup ahead of more than 20 contestants during the town's Firemen's Ball at The Imp'. Her sister, who worked as a TV hostess, was in the audience to watch her success.

Gillian, who was looking to make modelling her career, had won several beauty and fashion contests throughout the north that year.

Second was Mavis Smith, of Clitheroe, and third was Pauline Hendon. The cabaret spot was by a group of firemen, the Foggy Mountain Ramblers, who were gaining popularity after a TV slot.
