I AM tracing the life of my uncle Sidney Harvey who worked in the Star Paper Mill, Feniscowles, Blackburn, as a wireworker from 1913 to 1916 when he was called up to the East Lancs Regiment, later to be transferred to the Loyal North Lancs Regiment.
He was killed in action on June 8, 1917 at Messines Ridge. I will be going over for the 90th anniversary.
My husband has traced Sid's footsteps through the war and he fought in some of the great battles. Sid also seems to have been a delight to know, according to his officer and friends.
I know very little about him or his wife Nellie Wolstemholme, who he married in February 1916 at St Philip's Church, Blackburn, and wonder if anyone in the Blackburn area is related to Nellie or could tell what happened to her.
Does anyone have photographs of them?
I do have a copy of the article published in the Blackburn Times on July 7, 1917.
