Darwen history group’s member appeal

4:13pm Wednesday 11th March 2009

DARWEN Civic Society is appealing for new members.

The society runs community events such as a primary school bulb competition every February, an annual photographic competition, and helps preserve local history through various initiatives, such as erecting plaques to honour famous Darreners.

Marilyn Bysh, secretary of the society, said: “We desperately need new members, particularly younger people and people to join the committee.

“We made an appeal at the bulb competition, but nobody seemed interested.”

The society is holding its annual general meeting tonight at Derwent Hall, George Street, from 7pm.

Stuart Hammond, the waste and recycling manager for Blackburn with Darwen Council will be giving a talk, and all are welcome.
