Beer hidden for 50 years

A BOTTLE of beer, brewed by a long-gone Colne brewery, was discovered in a hidden doorway at the centuries-old New Inn, at Foulridge, in 1964.

Alongside was a list of names of prominent local folk, and a newspaper dated 1908.

During alterations, workmen had discovered a number of bricked-up windows and doorways.

Licensee Jack Harrison said: “While doing renovations we have come across many finds, but this is the most interesting yet.”

The beer, cloudy after being hidden for more than half a century, was brewed by William Blackburn’s brewery.
