Personal Overview - Has business experience, and an apparent Rugby League interest. He has a history of involvement in his local Council, and since entering Parliament has gained membership of several Select Committees. After the death of Princess Diana he called for Heathrow to be renamed in her memory. A strong protector of local interests he has spent a considerable time promoting local industry which is largely centred around defence (aerospace (BAe), and Royal Ordnance). Elected to the role of Deputy Speaker in June 2010.

Political History - Councillor, Adlington Town Council (1980-98), Chorley Borough Council, (1980-98), Mayor (1997-98). Member for Chorley (1997-). Member of the European Scrutiny Select Committee (2005-10). Member of the Finance & Services Committee (2010-). Chairman of Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker (2010-).

Characteristics - Appointed to the Privy Council (2013). A colourful and humorous MP who wanted Heathrow Airport to be renamed in memory of Princess Diana. His Honourable title is a consequence of his father's ennoblement in 1997 (Doug Hoyle, former Labour MP for Warrington North, elevated to the Lords just before the 1997 election and thus precluding the chance of serving in the Commons at the same time as his son). Named after Lindsay Hassett, a former Australian cricket captain (his father is a keen cricket fan and a long-serviing Chairman of the Cricket All Party Group).
