MY son aged 37 had a very bad stroke – he lost his speech and use of his right arm and wears a splint on his right leg. He was in hospital for almost nine months. He lives alone and did have the help of carers but no help from anyone else or advice. It would help if people who have gone through this awful illness had help and advice.

A British politician who in my opinion has been badly treated by political historians is Stanley Baldwin – a Conservative leader who was Prime Minister (1923-24, 1924-29 and 1935-1937.

THE story about Darth Vader, alias actor David Prowse, visiting Turf Moor this Bank Holiday Monday (LT, May 1) reminds me that as a five-year-old I got teased for weeks off my older brothers and cousins for refusing to go Unit 4 in Accrington to see Star Wars – as I wanted to watch Stanley v Rovers at The Crown Ground.
