ACTORS hope to have their audiences in stitches at the New Millennium Theatre from Saturday with a medical comedy triple bill.

Rossendale Players return to their Waterfoot base with three one-act comedies, all set in a hospital ward — including one written by member Dorrie Partington.

Visiting Hours is a collection of short plays by Richard Harris, with Plaster and Show Business selected for this production, with directing newcomers Tony McDonagh and Helen Lockett at the helm.

The night will conclude with Dorrie’s work Bedside Mannners.

The 35-year-old mum-of-two, from Waterfoot, said: “We had a look at some other one-act plays to run with Visiting Hours but didn’t like them, so I asked to have a go at writing something — although I fully expected a ‘no’.

“I primarily write poetry but never had the confidence to show my work to others. Friends have seen some of it and pushed me to do more, but I’m still on my journey with that.”

Dorrie, who will also direct the play, added: “I’m more nervous about this than anything I’ve ever acted in.”

The triple bill runs at the New Millennium from Saturday, until Saturday, April 12. Tickets for opening night cost £10 including wine and cake, and £7 on other nights from Watts’ News, Burnley Road East, or by calling Anne Riding on 01706 228720.
