EX-members turned professional stage stars will be joining Burnley’s Basics Junior Theatre School for a retirement concert.
Basics have this year bid a fond farewell to their founders Dennis and Sally Murtaugh after 26 years at the helm.
And to mark the company’s new era, they will take A Trip Down Memory Lane at Colne Muni on Sunday, May 27.
Britain’s Got Talent singing star and former Basics member Hollie Steele, who is training at the top Sylvia Young Theatre School will be among those returning to the stage for the event.
Under the new leadership of Andy Cooke – who joined Basics himself as a child for their first production The Boyfriend in 1986 – and team, membership has already doubled and plans are in place for their 2012 musical.
Andy said: “Dennis and Sally Murtaugh announced that they were to step down from the day-to-day running of Basics earlier this year to finally enjoy a very well-deserved retirement.
“Back in 1986, I was fortunate enough to play the lead role of Tony in The Boyfriend and this is where my love for musical theatre began – it seems like yesterday!
“My time spent as a member of Basics was a happy time and I owe much to the group - hence my involvement now.
“Both the Basics Feeder Group and the Senior Ensemble hope the numbers they perform during A Trip Down Memory Lane will serve not only as a reminder to Dennis and Sally of the many successful shows that they have produced and costumed over the years, but also as a great way to say ‘thank you’ for all their work.”
The event will also see members’ efforts rewarded with the first Basics awards.
