A SKATING spectacular will transform Colne Muni into a Winter Wonderland on Ice next Wednesday night.

This fabulous festive entertainment for all the family will see skaters who have worked on some of the world’s top ice shows performing live.

Winter Wonderland on Ice is being brought to Colne by pro skater Yvette Mauback-Lang and her company Ice Glitz Productions.

For Yvette, the Colne show marks a return to East Lancashire — she grew up in the area and had her first skating lessons at Blackburn Ice Arena before embarking on a skating career which has taken her all over the world.

“I have been in some of the top shows, such as Holiday on Ice, and worked for Disney and I always wanted to devise my own show,” she said. “I learned so much throughout my career and I have used that knowledge for the Winter Wonderland show. It’s full of spectacle and is for the youngest of children through to their grandparents.”

The show uses special synthetic ice which will allow the skaters to perform just as they would on ‘normal’ ice.

“It’s brilliant because we can lay it in about 10 minutes and it completely transforms a venue,” said Yvette, who will also be performing in the show.

Winter Wonderland on Ice tells the story of Rusty the toy dog who comes to life and enjoys adventures in a magical world.

“Christmas is a time for the family,” said Yvette, “and I wanted to put on a show full of life and colour. So we have everything from dancing penguins to some leading aerial acts.”

Among the artists performing in the show will be pair skaters who have previously worked on Disney on Ice shows and variety acts from Cirque de Soleil.

“I‘ve had people telling me I should take this show to London but I really want to give people in East Lancashire the chance to enjoy all the spectacle of one of the big touring shows close to home. Being part of shows in the past has given me a great insight into what makes them work and I’m really excited about this production.”

As well as being a spectacular show, Yvette hopes that Winter Wonderland will appeal to everyone who has become a fan of TV’s Dancing on Ice.

“The show has done wonders for skating,” she said, “and it has encouraged so many people to give it a try. We are so lucky in East Lancashire to have Blackburn Ice Arena. It’s where I started and my first coach Dawn Spendlove-Woodbridge is now head coach there. Without her I wouldn’t have had the career I have had.

“And now I’ve got the chance to come back to the area and put on a great family show in time for Christmas.”
