Pendle performers stage 'clever, witty' play
2:43pm Tuesday 27th November 2012 in Pendle entertainment previews
Lynne Atkinson, Gilly Grist, Tony Cummings, and Marilyn Crowther
THE ‘pocket handkerchief stage’ of Colne’s Little Theatre is to play host to a greenhouse, garden and stream – with running water.
Colne Dramatic Society returns to the stage next week with Entertaining Angels, a ‘clever witty’ play, which is posing headaches for the stage crew.
After years on her best behaviour, clergy wife Grace is now facing a new freedom after the death of her husband, asking: “I’ve made 4,600 medium-sized quiches and personally baked two tons of light crust pastry. And for what?”
But the return of her eccentric missionary sister Ruth, together with some disturbing revelations, force Grace to confront the truth of her marriage.
A society spokesman said: “With sharp-edged comedy and probing wit, this new play asks whether God can be trusted to do anything right at all or is the whole thing a divine exercise in trial and error?”
Gordon Ingleby makes his directing debut at the River Street theatre, with a cast of Lynne Atkinson, Gilly Grist, Marilyn Crowther, Laura Yates and Tony Cummings.
- Entertaining Angels, Colne Dramatic Society, Colne Little Theatre, Monday, December 3 to Saturday, December 8. Call 01282 861424 to book tickets, costing from £6.50.
