THE Milltown Brothers are back . . . and East Lancashire music fans are in for a special treat on Sunday when the popular indie rockers headline a charity music festival at Colne Muni.

The Brothers, from Colne, are re-forming for Sunday’s rock, dance and pop all-dayer, Songs For The Neighbourhood, with money raised going to Pendleside Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice.

Organiser Mark Nelson said: “It’s a real coup to have the Milltown Brothers at the top of the bill.

“They are a fantastic band and they still have a huge following in the county.

“They are still active on the music scene with their individual projects, but Matt, Simon, James, Barney and Nian can’t wait to play their biggest hits live in front of a home town audience.

“It should be a very special day and it is for a great cause.”

The Milltown Brothers last played together at the Songs For The Neighborhood show in 2010 and Supernova, The Mirrors, Hate Syndicate and Roger Westbrook, Tea Spoon and Mocking Birds will join them on the bill.

The concert will be hosted by Radio Lancashire sports presenter Gary Hickson.

Mark added: “We’ve punk, progressive rock, soul and folk bands, so there is something there for everyone to enjoy.

“Gary Hickson is a huge fan of Northern Soul, so I’m sure there will be some Wigan Casino classics squeezed in between all the great bands we have performing.

“We raised nearly £5,000 two years ago — we are aiming to beat that figure on Sunday.”

Watch out for a set from Big Picture, a band specially created for the project, which includes Bobby Elliott (The Hollies), Barney Williams (Milltown Brothers), Bruce Thomas and Chris Hartley (The Rubbish), Danny Handley (Cosmos) and Mark Jones from Black Grape, Shaun Ryder’s former band.

And Lewis and the Neighbourhood will be performing their new song, ‘Who Cares?, written by Nelson especially for the project.

The recorded version is available on The Songs For The Neighbourhood album, with the new release including tracks from the artists who will be playing on Sunday as well as new tracks from up-and-coming Lancashire duo The Lovely Eggs, Danny Handley and Mark Hicks..

The new album will be available as a download only, and is being arranged by Hickson.

All proceeds from both concert tickets sales and record sales will go directly to both charities.

Tickets £10 (under12s free) arevailable from the Muni box office 01282 661234 and online at www.themuni.co.uk. The show runs from 2 pm to 11pm.
