REPUTATION Missing Andy
WITH their energetic live shows and songs with a social conscience, Missing Andy are band which could easily have fitted into the new wave and ska scene of the late 1970s.
It is fitting, therefore, that they are coming to the Grand in Clitheroe as one of the headline acts for a one-day festival celebrating the Spirit of 79.
The London-based outfit have already been creating quite a stir in the music industry, going down a storm at the influential SXSW Festival in Texas and with a European tour later in the year to look forward to.
For lead singer Alex Greaves, one of the band’s great strengths is its honesty.
“We can only write about things which we have seen and experienced,” he said, “and that strikes a chord with our audiences. If a song means something to us, then it’s going to mean something to them too and I think people can see themselves in our songs.”
The Spirit of 79 event follows on from last year’s highly-successful Mod and Soul Weekender in Clitheroe. This time round as well as leading bands on the main stage at the Grand, a number of pubs and cafes in the town will also be hosting live music events to create a genuine festival feel.
“The scene is really buzzing at the moment,” said Alex. “At our gigs we get guys who were there in the Seventies and Eighties and also a younger generation who are new to the music.
“The fans are a pretty rowdy bunch which creates a great atmosphere. It’s such a great feeling to play somewhere you have never been to before and find the audience singing your songs back to you.
“We’re all about seeing people enjoy themselves.”
