FOOTBALL fever is being embraced in the next play to run at Chorley Little Theatre.

An Evening With Gary Lineker, a Chorley Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society (CADOS) production, is a comedy set at a hotel in Spain in 1990.

A group of holidaymakers, led by Bill and Dan, want to watch the World Cup Semi-Final on TV, but Bill’s wife Monica would prefer to discuss their relationship.

As the football gets more dramatic, so do the feelings in the hotel room.

Written by Arthur Smith and Chris England, the play was nominated for Best Comedy at the Olivier Awards in 1991.

Sarah Rosental stars as Monica, supported by long-time CADOS members Steven Catterall, Alan Levesley, Paul Carr and newcomer Sophie Watson.

Director Sean Duxbury previously staged Neville’s Island and hopes audiences will enjoy this play just as much.

He is also keen to stress Gary Lineker himself does not appear.

He said: “It’s a play about relationships and dreams running parallel to events on the pitch, and appeals those who don’t know about football.”

The show runs from June 18 to 23 at 7.30pm.
