Sweeney Todd show heads to the Pendle stage
A GRUESOME reminder that revenge is a dish best served hot with a flaky crust is on offer next month.
Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company returns to the stage with the Stephen Sondheim musical Sweeney Todd! The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.
Spokesman Milly Greenwood said: “The show is a fabulous blend of comedy and horror as Sweeney Todd, a skilled barber with a troubled past, discovers his wife has killed herself and his daughter kidnapped by the evil Judge Turpin. Sweeney vows to have vengeance by any means necessary.”
Cheerfully aided by pie shop owner Mrs Lovett, Sweeney exacts his terrible revenge and the duo dish up the ‘worst pies in London’ to unsuspecting customers.
Milly added: “Add to the mix some doomed young lovers, a comic character or two, numerous onstage deaths, the evil judge, the hauntingly beautiful music of Sondheim and you’ve got the recipe for a celebrated musical masterpiece.”
Tickets are on sale now for the production at Pendle Hippodrome from September 24 to 28 at 7.30pm, with a 2pm matinee on the Saturday. Visit Discover Pendle at Boundary Mill or call 01282 612402 to book.
