COLNE Dramatic Society is this week staging two premieres by a local playwright at the town’s Little Theatre.

John Turley has written Haven and Something In The Air for the society, following the success of his production The Right Thing, presented at Colne Muni in 2010.

He said: “When I was first approached by the Little Theatre about the possibility of putting on a new play I had only completed Haven.

“As a one act play, it was not long enough for a full evening’s entertainment, so we came up with the idea of me writing another play to complete the programme.

“With Haven being a powerful drama concerning an ex-teacher now being cared for in a hospice I felt it was very important to balance this with a lighter comedy with plenty of laughs and the odd poignant, bitter sweet moment.

"Hopefully in Something In The Air I have achieved this and so there should be something for everyone.”

John is also directing Haven, with Marilyn Crowther directing Something In The Air.

A well-known local actress and director, Marilyn is enjoying the opportunity to work on a new play. She said: “Here at the Little Theatre we’re thrilled to be staging John’s new plays.

“We’ve got a cracking cast, rehearsals are going well and we’re looking forward to presenting a memorable theatrical experience.”

n Haven and Something In The Air, Colne Dramatic Society, Little Theatre, River Street, Colne until Saturday, March 9, 7.30pm. Tickets cost from £6.50 by calling 01282 861424.
