FOLLOWING huge success in the West End and now Broadway, the National Theatre production of War Horse is coming to The Lowry next year.

In what willl be the longest run of any show at the Salford Quays theatre, War Horse tells the powerful and uplifting story of young Albert, and his beloved horse Joey, set in the bloody battlefields of The First World War.

“War Horse is an astonishing piece of drama and we are incredibly proud to be staging the North West premiere of War Horse in 2013,” said the Lowry’s artistic director, Robert Robson.

War Horse isn’t the only outstanding drama from the National Theatre that will be gracing the Lyric stage next year.

Broadway hit One Man, Two Guvnors, starring Rufus Hound and Lancashire’s Jodie Prenger, makes a triumphant return following a sell-out season at The Lowry in 2011.

Richard Bean’s award-winning play is a glorious celebration of British comedy: A laugh-out loud mix of satire, songs, slapstick and one-liners.

In the Galleries, the theatre will celebrate the 80th birthday of the Godfather of Pop Art, Peter Blake.

Blake worked with some of the 20th Century’s biggest musical stars, including Elvis Presley and The Beatles, famously co-creating the legendary cover for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

This fascinating exhibition, Peter Blake and Pop Music, is a compelling tribute to one of Britian’s most important artists.

There is a wide range of events lined up at the Lowry for its new season from January, offering dance, music and comedy of the highest standard.

Sleeping Beauty On Ice is a sparkling theatrical experience to thrill and enchant audiences of all ages. Featuring the Imperial Ice Stars, the world’s leading performers of theatrical ice dance, this production is set to Tchaikovsky’s classical score.

Woody Sez brings together American folk legend Woody Guthrie’s life, songs and political activism to create a portrait of a true American hero in this entertaining musical.

If it is a 1960s night of wigs, hats and dancing you want, then the West End’s favourite comedy, Hairspray, is the one for you – featuring X Factor 2011 runner up Marcus Collins as Seaweed Stubbs There is plenty of powerful drama at The Lowry too. Rutherford and Son, directed by Sir Jonathan Miller, is set in the North of England and is an unflinching portrayal of an industrial Edwardian family on the brink of collapse.

The Christians, who enjoyed chart success with Ideal World, kick-start the theatre’s live music programme, which also includes prog-rock heavyweights Caravan and veteran folksters Fairport Convention.
