Blackburn performers to stage Me and My Girl

BLACKBURN Musical Theatre Company has announced its show for 2013.
The 100-year-old society will stage Me And My Girl at Thwaites Empire Theatre in May, with rehearsals starting in the new year.
After celebrating the former Blackburn Amateurs’ 100th anniversary this year - with Carousel in May and the Centenary Showcase in October, BMTC are set to move into their second century with style.
The popular show features songs such as Leaning On A Lamppost, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and the Lambeth Walk.
Company secretary, and co-director Tony Fry said: “What a year we’ve had in 2012; sell out performances of Carousel, our Centenary Ball and wonderful reactions from our audiences for the Centenary Showcase.
“But it’s time now to move onward and upward for our 2013 musical Me And My Girl, which will be director by myself and Gary Worthy, with Katie Fry our choreographer again.
“Me And My Girl is a much lighter show than Carousel was, very quirky and humourous with great songs.
“The show was selected as a result of coming top overall from audience and company members’ surveys carried out during Carousel. It takes a light-hearted look at the British class system, as Cockney Bill Snibson and his girl Sally try to make their way among the dukes and duchess of Hareford.”
The company will hold its first get-together for the production on Monday, January 7, at Thwaites Empire Theatre, Blackburn, at 7.45pm.
Anyone interested in coming along for a singalong and to get more information about the production and auditions can turn up to the meeting.
Me And My Girl will be staged from Monday, May 13 to Saturday, May 18.
