AN award-winning political play is being presented by one of East Lancashire’s newest theatre companies.

Holden2UrHats returns to the ACE Centre, Nelson, on Friday to present Party, by Tom Basden, before moving on to the Rainhall Centre in Barnoldwick on November 24.

The Edinburgh Festival award-winning comedy was recently serialised on BBC Radio 4.

Company director Katie Holden said: “It is about small minds tackling big issues such as – China, sex trafficking, cycle lanes, unfair trade coffee, whether to call the party ‘The Friendly Party’ or ‘Gladios’, and when, exactly, they should break to eat a cake.

“Four dopey students have assembled in wannabe leader Jared’s shed to draft a manifesto for their right-on new political party.

“From the perils of electing a leader and choosing a party name through to the finer intricacies of foreign and environmental policy, this comedy satirises the ambitions, hypocrisy and naivety of those who choose to try to change the world. The contrasting personalities and egos of the characters ensure an evening of high comedy tempered with touching naivety, with a sting in the tail.

“You wouldn’t want this lot running the country, but comedy-wise, they’ll get your vote.”
